Picture this: your new office space is Annie Lennox’s former recording studio. The walls are decorated with stage-ready neon signs and there are colourful flourishes throughout. It’s bright, atmospheric and rich with musical heritage. Isn’t that what sweet (interiors) dreams are made of?
This was Harrods Interior Design’s vision for this newly reimagined London office. Tasked with designing an adaptable space that feels young and fresh, the team achieved a practical interior design scheme imbued with character and sprinkled with playful references to the property’s storied past.
In the reception, a bespoke Jan Erika canvas creates a visually arresting focal point. Its cool colours and geometric shapes are mirrored in the rug, which grounds a welcoming seating area. There, plump armchairs, a curved accent table and further spherical accessories help to soften the formal lines of the reception desk – a striking feat of marble and wood.
To render the space both practical and versatile, the team selected a mix of traditional and standing desks, while private booths and moveable whiteboards boost functionality.
In the breakout area, existing pillars are cleverly transformed into practical bookshelves, which allows them to tie seamlessly into the interior. To create a sense of calm, the space is dotted with leafy plants, their silhouettes reflected in the fabric that upholsters the comfy tub chairs. On the wall, a neon sign showcasing Annie Lennox’s most famous lyrics adds a playful final touch.
Low lighting and existing soundproof walls in the meeting room and podcast studio help to create an intimate atmosphere. Exaggerated features such as an oversized Annie Lennox signature add drama to the space, while an ‘Always curious…’ neon sign – one of the company’s core values – adds a personalised element.
In the CEO’s office, the balance between privacy and integration is achieved with a special glass wall that switches from transparent to opaque. There’s a bespoke desk, tailored storage and decorative shelves filled with eye-catching accessories from the Harrods Home & Furniture department.
Deep, comforting rust tones are mixed with homely wood textures in the self-contained living quarters. For the interior styling, there are splashes of colour in the rugs and artwork, each of them adding vibrancy and personality. In the bathroom, backlit mirrors and a combination of stone and wood finishes create a masculine, moody feel.
Last but certainly not least, the Harrods Interior Design team have used fluted wall panels throughout the office and living space to conceal storage. Inspired by the panelled walls of a recording studio, this timeless detail is a beautiful way of paying homage to the property’s previous life.
