5 Dress Trends to Wear this Party Season

Feature: Quick Read
Words by Eleanor Hibberd

The arrival of dark nights and twinkling lights signals our favourite time of year for getting dressed. Why? Two words – party dresses. From gothically romantic LBDs to red cocktail dresses and dazzling sequin numbers, these five trending styles will see you through this year’s Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Scorpio Season

Call it the Wednesday Addams effect – little black dresses have taken on a dark romance for Autumn/Winter 2023. Gothic lace, feather trims, gossamer tulle and rich velvet bring drama to this party-season staple, offering up a glamorous affair at Alessandra Rich, Zimmermann, Rabanne and more.

Peekaboo Cut-Outs

A-list endorsed brands Area NYC, Nensi Dojaka, Christopher Esber and 16Arlington have placed cut-out dresses firmly at the centre of the cool-girl party aesthetic in recent years. The young, fun cousin of festive dressing, this NSFW trend is the wild card of the season – one to save for those friends-only occasions. A good coat is essential, even if only to check at the door.

Seeing Red

Countless Autumn/Winter 2023 runway appearances set this bold shade on the path to greatness. Undoubtedly living up to its prospects, the new season’s collections are flush with the festive hue – which can only mean good things for that incoming influx of invitations. Because, trending though they are, red dresses will always find their true time to shine at Christmas.

Maxed Out

Long sleeves and maxi lengths are some of the chicest trends for AW23 – and we’ll not readily see them disappear with the arrival of party season. Taller Marmo, LaPointe, The Vampire’s Wife and more take full-coverage silhouettes into the festivities with feather trims and shimmering finishes – making them welcome additions to the partywear roster, whether you prefer a more modest option or you like a buffer between you and December weather.

All That Glitters

When you say party, we say sequins. It’s not every day that we get to don top-to-toe glitter – so, when the opportunity arrives, why do half measures? Sequins and crystals can bring endless fun to your festive style. After all, there’s no dancefloor without a disco ball. Consider The New Arrivals Ilkyaz Ozel, Balmain, Self-Portrait and Giuseppe di Morabito your guiding stars.
