5 Jewellery Stacking Ideas for 2024

Feature: Quick Read
Words by Eleanor Hibberd

Jewellery stacking is nothing new, but that doesn’t mean it’s not changing with the times. Having provided us with the tools to not only wear our most precious possessions every day, but wear them all at once, it’s the trend that keeps on giving – but it can be tricky to know where to start. So, whether you’re trying to build a collection from scratch or looking to shake up your aesthetic, here are five ways to do it.

Jewels
1. The Ruby Stack

If there’s one colour leading the Autumn/Winter 2024 aesthetic, it’s burgundy. From Merlot knitwear to cherry-red accessories, there’s nowhere this rich palette can’t be found right now – even in our jewellery boxes. An object of desire for centuries, the deep yet vibrant shade of rubies holds a perennial elegance that will stretch far beyond seasonal trends. At Netali Nissim, the appeal of the gem is enhanced by stacking it with rose gold via the Navette and talismanic Protected collections, centred around the brand’s signature oval motif that draws on ancient evil-eye symbology.

2. The Everyday Stack

No matter how little or large the jewellery box, we all have those pieces that become part of our daily uniforms. More often than not, this is the rotation that means the most – the heart motif that was a gift from your best friend, the diamond ring you bought for yourself, the personal zodiac icon or a loved one’s initials. Los Angeles designer Jennifer Meyer is an expert in creating these wearable pieces, with her eye for delicate diamonds and considered, chic proportions – perfect tokens for gifting, and even better for treating yourself.

3. The Mixed-Metal Stack

The beauty of modern jewellery is in its abandonment of old-school rules – where once we would have chosen between the camps of white, yellow or rose gold, now, anything goes. Not only can you build a collection of all three, but wearing them at once is proving the coolest way to style jewellery today. Spinelli Kilcollin offers a masterclass in doing so, with its signature stacking rings that do the hard work for you by artfully layering the perfect balance of colours. Meanwhile, Engelbert’s unmistakable combination of chunky chains, 3D knots and iced pavé diamonds create intrigue through contrasting textures as well as metals.

4. The Colourful Stack

What mixing metals is to the minimalist, clashing colours is to the maximalist. More than ever, jewellery designers are championing the beautiful vibrancy of nature’s gemstones in pieces designed to be worn every day, not just for special occasions. Brands like Emily P. Wheeler and Melissa Kaye are known for harnessing the power of colour, using sapphires, emeralds, tsavorites, tourmaline and more alongside enamel finishings and bold beads to create a stack that will always brighten your day.

5. The Wrist Stack

With ring stacking, necklace layering and ‘curated ears’ having long been leading conversations in jewellery over recent years, our wrists have been left somewhat neglected – but the tides are changing. This year has seen the definitive return of statement bangles and bracelets, and it’s only set to rise. This is the It-girl trend in jewellery right now, so make sure your collection is up to scratch with Pomellato’s thick chains, Suzanne Kalan’s scattered Fireworks designs, Nada Ghazal’s textured cuffs and more. Bonus points if you can throw a bracelet watch in there too.
