Meet The Team

Yulia Isaeva

Senior Designer

Yulia Isaeva in action
“I revel in history and research; diving into archives and connecting old and new to create interiors that are works of art”

Yulia has a designer’s soul. When she’s not designing exquisite interiors and bespoke pieces, she’s poring over archives and history books. Ask her about Gio Ponti, Wiener Werkstätte or Marcel Breuer and her face will light up. She’s a fount of knowledge, especially when it comes to period styles – a strength she uses to imbue her designs with meaning and character.

Portfolio Highlights

  • Developing the Mood

“A great part of an interior’s evolution is deciding on the finishes. Experimenting with materials helps to develop a scheme, and it’s a wonderful way to engage with the client. Whether daring or not, choosing materials leads the conversation. Here, I experimented with textures of glass for the bathroom vanity wall, keeping to white tones and mixing surfaces to make the room look like a jewel."

“This project in Mayfair is a great example of the ‘modernised glamour’ look. Opulent materials inspired by the Art Deco period combine with contemporary furniture: see the lush surfaces and streamlined edges on the upholstered wardrobes, or the veneered bedside tables finished with bespoke ironmongery and rare marble tops.”

  • Diving Into the Archives

“Archives are often my go-to source of inspiration if the client favours a simplified-classic or modernised-glamour look, especially for the architectural details. This particular detail is a print of a ceiling design dating back to the 18th century. I used it as a base for the layout of the decorative ornaments that we then hand-picked with the plaster specialist to work with the theme of the dining room."

“Open-plan spaces trended in the late 1930s, so for this interior we sought inspiration from the great modernists of the time, including Marcel Breuer, Jean Royère and Gio Ponti. The aim was to create a large lounge but retain privacy within each furniture group, which we achieved through the positioning of the pieces, but also through the ombré rug colours and zonal lighting.”

Interior Motives

What sparked your passion for design?
"My father introduced me to architecture, design and antique pieces. He works in construction. I quickly developed a desire to understand the origins of décor elements and furniture. It’s why I love visiting museums and walking around in old cities. Living in Paris was glorious. After that, I decided to do a master's in the History of Decorative Arts and Design in New York."

How would you describe your personal style?
"Definitely eclectic; I admire many styles. It depends on my mood. I like to adapt to the client’s taste and often see it as a puzzle that needs solving. I do lean towards classic elements, such as symmetry and balanced proportions. There’s a reason classicism has prevailed for thousands of years…"

What’s your favourite part of the design process?
"Creating bespoke pieces or elements – something that’s truly personal to the client. A pattern, an emblem, a secret room, a hidden drawer, a bespoke piece of furniture. I love taking old objects, stripping them back and creating something new with it. You write a new chapter for it and create something special.”

What would you consider to be your USP?
"My designs tell stories. When I match materials, it’s not just about the colours; it’s about how they feed into a narrative. And, thanks to my education, I’m knowledgeable about a variety of period styles and can do historical sourcing."

What would your dream home look like?
"I’ve been planning my dream apartment for the past five years. It would be elegant with simplified shapes, curved lines and natural materials. I’d have timber walls and concealed joinery; upholstered walls, colourful marble floors and door architraves. And lots of vintage pieces. Some bedrooms would have their own themes, perhaps relevant to the countries I have lived in or visited. Lots of culture and history throughout. Very little clutter."

Do you have any rules to live by?
"I'd rather fail than live with the regret of not knowing or not trying."
