Fornasetti is an icon in the world of Italian design; founded by Piero Fornasetti in the 1950s, and now headed up by his son Barnaba, the atelier is characterised by its playful take on surrealist art. Animals, architecture and the sun and moon are just some of the recurring motifs seen across the collection, but it’s the face of Lina Cavalieri – an opera singer once considered the most beautiful woman in the world – who serves as the primary muse. With its illustrations applied to a wide variety of everyday objects, from plates and chairs to cushions and candles, homes are instantly enriched with eccentric flair, offering onlookers a passport into the brand’s whimsical world that floats somewhere between imagination and reality.
